Saccone: Twelve and You’re Out
Rep. Rick Saccone (R-Allegheny/Washington) today announced the introduction of House Bill 2160 that would limit the number of terms any individual could serve in the Pennsylvania General Assembly.
If enacted, House Bill 2160 would limit any lawmaker elected to serve in the Pennsylvania General Assembly to a combined total of 12 years in office. This would include combined House and Senate service.
I’m not going all Pollyanna here; I know this bill has roughly a snowball’s chance of passing, but if somebody doesn’t start the ball rolling it will never happen.
I used to be staunchly opposed to term limits, but as I watched what really went on in the the State and Federal governments, it became apparent that we need term limits. The power, the money, and the corruption that attends these career legislators is almost impossible to comprehend. Ask Bill DeWeese–he can explain it to you better than I can.
They’ve successfully gamed the system to keep themselves in office, so the only thing left to do is change the system. Kudos to Rick Saccone for having the cojones to actually say what everyone already knows.
