Re: Getting Beyond Rudy

Hi guys,

Checked the Corner posts on Rudy. They are now posting a transcript of the relevant part of the interview. [here] In it Rudy is far less dismissive of the right to life movement. But the dilemma remains and he offers no suggestions as to just how the Republican Party is supposed to move beyond these divisive issues other than an admonition to mutually respect one another. I recently saw an article [I believe it was in the New Republic] arguing that by allowing the issue to be decided on a state-by-state basis, it would lose all salience as a national issue. Perhaps that’s a way forward — not perfect, but what is perfect in this world? [other of course than the contributors to this blog]
This is an issue on which platitudes will not suffice. We need to hear far more from Rudy and, from the transcript, it seems that he is willing to talk about specifics. I wish the questioner or reporter had pressed him for a fuller answer.
