OBAMA AND CHAVEZ- B.F.F.
“The United States empire is on its way down and it will be finished in the near future, inshallah,” Chavez told reporters, ending the statement with the Arabic phrase for “God willing.” Chavez said that the United Nations is a “deceased” organization because it was formed to bridge the differences between the United States and Russia, and a brand new international organization would have to be formed to replace it.
These are the words of South American strongman and communist revolutionary Hugo Chavez. He is in effect the dictator of Venezuela, a tyrant and a thug. The policy of the United States has always been to isolate dictators like this and give as little credibility to their regimes as possible. While not always the most effective policy in terms of regime change (as in the case of Cuba) it is usually the only way to deal with unstable individuals and regimes.
Right now there are several regimes like this in the world. Venezuela, Cuba, Iran, North Korea, Myanmar, and many Islamic nations like Syria are all countries with little in the way of international credibility. They are ruled for the most part by unelected regimes or regimes “elected” under dubious circumstances. Hugo Chavez is nothing more than a wanna be dictator for life. So far he hasn’t been able to legally cement his lifetime grip on power but he is trying. There is very little reason to think if he can’t become dictator for life legally he will just go ahead and do so illegally. That’s how dictators roll.
So imagine how the Venezuelan opposition feels when they see U.S. President Barack Obama shaking hands with this thug. Disheartened? To say the least. The champions of democracy in Venezuela have just been slapped in the face by this administration. As our President shaking hands with a dictator is something you just don’t do. Yet Obama again has failed to grasp the symbolic importance of the Office of the President of the United States of America.
The President shakes hands with FRIENDS of the U.S not enemies. If you shake hands with our enemies what message does that send to our friends and those who look to us for strength and support? Again bowing to foreign Kings, shaking hands with dictators who insult our country and are openly hostile toward us is disgraceful and can’t be condoned on any level.
The Obama administration is stumbling from one international screw up to another. Obama’s people should have made sure that the President and Chavez never entered the same room together. All this photo op did was prop up Chavez and weaken the United States. While N. Korea launches missiles unchallenged, Iran builds 7,000 centrifuges, the Taliban re-asserts it control in Afghanistan, the Russians and Chinese thwart us at every turn and Cuba entertains U.S. Congressional delegations, the free people of the world lay awake at night wondering who will save them.
The answer from this administration is loud, clear, and ugly. No one, you’re on your own.
