Republican Base Not Falling for Scapegoating of Social Conservatism November 22 2008
Every time the Republicans lose an election, the pro-abortion RINOs, Democrats, and media hacks declare that social conservatism is the real loser. In order for the Republican Party to win, they claim, we need to “run to the center”, which actually means they want us to run a pro-abortion candidate. Considering that the Republican Party’s largest and most faithful voter bloc consists of pro-life Evangelical Protestants, this notion is absurd on its face. But, that doesn’t stop ‘em from trying.
The pro-aborts seem to be losing their minds in some cases. Normally level-headed Democrat Mort Kondracke actually blamed John McCain’s loss on Terri Schiavo. Say what?! Terri Schiavo was an issue in the 2008 election?! And here I thought it was all about the economy.
The good news is that, once again, the pro-aborts are failing to sway the Republican base. According to Gallup, Sarah Palin is currently the frontrunner for a potential Republican candidacy in 2012, followed by Mitt Romney and Mike Huckabee respectively. What do those three have in common? They all ran on the socially conservative, pro-life platform in 2008.
On top of having the highest positives – 67% among Republicans – Sarah Palin also has the lowest negatives – 30%. Pro-abortion Republican Rudy Giuliani, by comparison, is viewed positively by only 48% of Republicans and negatively by 47%!
Personally I’d love to see a ticket like SARAH/Romney, or Romney/SARAH, or SARAH/Jindal… really, anything involving SARAH if you can see a theme here. Bobby Jindal’s numbers are currently low, but that’s likely because he’s an unknown – 30% of Republicans have no opinion of him.
The good news about Romney is that a majority of both conservative and liberal Republicans like him. I truly believe he could have won the election if it wasn’t for Huckabee staying in the contest to split the conservative vote. For that reason, I no longer like Huckabee, and I certainly hope that he doesn’t plan on running for president again.
