Santorum For UN? December 4 2006
Current UN Ambassador John Bolton won’t be confirmed to the United Nations. A Lincoln Chafee supported Democrat filibuster is in the way.
My first inclination would be say “screw it” and not fill it at all. It’s no loss. The UN is a mess. Let’s not be part of it.
But it’s not an “Alex Charyna” run country.
National Review’s John Miller has a different idea.
How about Rick Santorum for the UN job? Yeah, there’d probably be a confirmation fight. And he may want to take a breather after 16 years in elected office. But it’s worth thinking over.
Which spurred some discussion at the Corner.
A confirmation fight, sure. But he is a senator. Let’s see how much the club respects that in his case.
K-Lo also links to Santorum’s Gathering Storm speech saying “this ain’t a bad voice to have over at the United Nations.”
Andrew Stuttaford is not as enthusiastic.
I cannot see someone less likely to project American power than a defeated senator nominated by a lame duck president.
Oh yes I can. Jimmy Carter. But you know what I mean.
Rick would be a good candidate for the UN. Just like Bolton, but no mustache.
Plus he knows how to fight for what’s right.
