Poor, poor speech. He abandoned the ideas behind his 2004 speech which made people like it so much and made a conventional political speech when he is supposed to be no ordinary politician, but the Obamessiah. His 2004 DNC speech was vague, and arbitrary, and talked in general terms about positive concepts like “hope” and change”. That’s exactly why so many people liked it.
His 2008 DNC speech, while naturally avoiding being too specific (he is a Democrat, after all), was still way too specific and, dare I say, reality-based. It was like a watered-down version of the speech Joe Biden gave last night, which was far superior. Biden’s speech made me feel sick to my stomach, because I knew it would be very convincing to the Democrats. Obama’s speech just made me grin and laugh.
Obama blew it. He could have come out of this convention with a huge bounce if he had just re-read the same speech from 2004. Instead, I’ll be shocked if he gets more than a 2% bounce.
The ball’s in your court, McCain. Choose a conservative pro-life VP, do a good job at the RNC, and you’ll take the lead in this thing.
