Re: On Our General Election Opponent

Jeff, here’s a factor you didn’t mention.

Sore loser Democrats.

From the latest Franklin & Marshall Poll:

If [FILL preferred candidate] does not win the Democratic nomination, who do you think you will vote for in the November election? Will you vote for [fill other candidate], John McCain, some other candidate, or will you probably not vote in the November election?

Hillary Clinton supporters (n = 228)
53% Barack Obama
19% John McCain
5% Other
13% Won’t vote
10% Don’t know

Barack Obama supporters (n = 126)
60% Hillary Clinton
20% John McCain
3% Other
3% Won’t vote
14% Don’t know

One in five Pennsylvania Democrats won’t vote for the Democrat in the general!

There are nearly four million registered Democrats in Pennsylvania, (in the best case if your McCain) if a fifth vote for him, that’s 800,000 votes.

Realistically, that’s not going to happen. But it’s not without impact.

Senator Kerry’s margin of victory in 2004 was a 144 thousand. Think about that. That’s really a swing of 75 thousand sore loser Democrats.

John McCain might only need a few percent of Democrats to vote for him.

… and 21 electoral votes are ours.

Bwa-hah-hah!
