Rendell: Conservative Whites are Racist February 12 2008
“You’ve got conservative whites here, and I think there are some whites who are probably not ready to vote for an African-American candidate,” he said bluntly. Our eyes only met briefly, perhaps because the governor wanted to spare the only black guy in the room from feeling self-conscious for backing an obvious loser. “I believe, looking at the returns in my election, that had Lynn Swann [2006 Republican gubernatorial candidate] been the identical candidate that he was –well-spoken [note: Mr. Rendell did not call the brother "articulate"], charismatic, good-looking — but white instead of black, instead of winning by 22 points, I would have won by 17 or so.”
Well ok. 5%.
So the racists voted for the humble Jewish White Guy over the Black man.
Yeah, I can believe it.
Update: I read it as “all PA voters” but Ace at Ace of Spades HQ reads it as “Democrat white racists”
The Democrats and Democrat-leaners have managed to deliver Pennsylvania’s rich trove of delegates to the Democratic candidate in the past, what, four elections? At least?
But now, it seems, red-gone-purple-gone-blue Pennsylvania may not be able to manage this again. At least not if the Democratic nominee is a schvartze.
Can’t pin this on Republicans, Rendell. Democrats have managed to carry the state for twenty years. Republicans are, obviously, not an important part of the Pennsylvania Democratic coalition.
