Re: The Establishment Won?

Dale, I disagree.

The loss in NY-23 was caused by an inept NY GOP which forced a totally unacceptable candidate on the people of that district. The people of NY-23 rejected the liberal – not moderate, LIBERAL – Scozzafava, but the upstart Conservative challenger was unable to overcome both the full might of the National Democratic Party and the NY GOP.

Hoffman lost by only 5%. That is astounding. A third party candidate, a carpetbagger, with no money, with no time to campaign, with no real charisma, and really nothing but a few big time endorsements and his own conservatism, almost won in a moderate-Republican district. This is despite the fact that President Obama’s cronies descended on NY-23 and did everything they could to prevent a Hoffman victory. And while they took their eye off the ball, conservative Republicans marched to victory in far more important races in New Jersey, Virginia, and Pennsylvania.

And we didn’t really lose, either. The real victory in NY-23 came on Halloween when Scozzafava withdrew from the race. She was the most liberal candidate running in the district. That’s not according to me, that’s according to Kos himself of Daily Kos, who actually endorsed her. If an outright liberal Republican were elected in NY-23, it would have been very hard to get rid of her, and her liberal votes would have been used by the Democrats and the media for years in attempts to marginalize conservatives.

Instead of getting a liberal extremist “Republican”, we ended up with a typical liberal Democrat, who faces re-election in one year. As long as the NY GOP gets their act together, finds some good conservative or moderate candidates who live in NY-23, and HAS A PRIMARY ELECTION, this seat in Congress will be back in Republican hands in one year’s time.

The Democrats are saying that Hoffman’s defeat shows that conservatism is a loser. Uh, no. New Jersey, one of the darkest blue states in the Union, just elected a CONSERVATIVE Republican governor. NJ Governor-elect Chris Christie is for lower taxes, smaller government, is pro-life, and is against gay “marriage”. The next time someone tells you that the Republicans need to go “moderate” to win elections, tell them about the conservative governor of New Jersey.
