ObamaCare Speech LiveBlog September 9 2009

-So far we’ve had 8 minutes of dead air as Obama is running late in his interruption of the TV programs of millions of Americans. This is unbelievable. This could be the most important speech of his presidency and he’s running LATE??? 9 minutes late now.
-Obama finally arrives. 11 minutes late to the most important speech of his presidency. But of course we need to slap each other on the back for a few minutes before the actual speech starts, wasting more of the American people’s time.
-8:14PM. Obama has still not started his speech. He’s too busy shaking hands with Nancy Pelosi.
-8:16PM. Obama finally starts his speech. After wasting 16 minutes of time for millions of Americans.
-Obama says he’s pulled the economy back from the brink. Uh… is this a State of the Union address or an explanation of ObamaCare?
-Now Obama’s telling sob stories to justify ObamaCare. Yes, these people shouldn’t have fallen through the cracks, but there are plenty of ways to take care of them without creating a trillion dollar bureaucracy.
-Obama says that the middle class can’t afford health care. Well, sure, some people can’t afford a laptop, and an iPhone, and a $200,000 house, AND health care.
-Obama says that people with health coverage are paying a “tax” to pay for the emergency room visits of those who are uninsured. You mean they aren’t dying in the streets?
-Obama says something that actually makes sense – let’s fix the problems instead of building a whole new system. Unfortunately, he’s misrepresenting his plan.
-Obama says Democrats and Republicans need to come together. Right, we’ve heard this all before. It’s the same old nonsense. When Obama says it’s time for bipartisanship, that means it’s time for both parties to agree with his plan.
-Obama says they will NOT deny you for a pre-existing condition. So I shouldn’t get coverage until I get sick, then, since they can’t deny me for a pre-existing condition.
-Obama says, “No one should go broke because they get sick.” I agree, but we don’t need a trillion dollar government bureaucracy to prevent that.
-Obama’s going to offer us “quality, affordable choices”. If he gives an indication of how much we will actually have to pay for these “choices” I will die of shock.
-Obama says that the youth may take a risk and go without healthcare. What risk??? He says he will cover my pre-existing conditions!!
-Obama just said that we will ALL BE REQUIRED to carry health insurance. Hear that, libertarians??
-Obama says that some details of this plan still need to be ironed out. Laughter from Congress. Wonderful.
-Obama’s threatening his critics now. That’s American!
-Obama says that ObamaCare will not apply to illegals. Someone yelled “LIE!”
-So let me see if I have this right; Obama’s upset about us having to pay for millions of people who are not covered, so he says we ALL need to be covered. But illegals WON’T be covered??? WHAT???
-Whoever yelled “LIE!” is an American hero.
-Obama says we need to work together on any legitimate concerns we have. Let me guess; if we disagree with him, our concerns are not “legitimate”.
-Now Obama is blaming GEORGE BUSH and the IRAQ WAR for people not having health care. Hahaha…
-Obama in a nutshell: We’re going to SAVE money by SPENDING a trillion dollars!
-Obama vows to prevent Medicare reform! Hooray! Of course that means it’s going broke when the full weight of the babyboomers is placed on it.
-Obama in a nutshell 2: Insurance companies aren’t bad; they’re just making billions of dollars in profit at the expense of sick people.
-Obama says his plan will cost $900 billion over 10 years, but it’s OK, because it’s less than the IRAQ WAR and TAX CUTS FOR THE RICH
-Obama says he will listen to Republicans with “serious” proposals. So if you disagree with him, you’re not “serious”.
-Obama: “If you misrepresent what’s in this plan, we will call you out”. Calling yourself out, then, Barry?
-Time to use Teddy Kennedy’s corpse to score political points!
-…Still using Teddy Kennedy’s corpse.
-Obama’s speech is going overtime. Now he’s interrupting the evening of Americans who just turned on their 9PM TV shows. They aren’t going to like that.
-Obama needs to do two things tonight: Say that ABORTION IS NOT COVERED and explain exactly how much it will cost an American family to purchase ObamaCare. He isn’t doing those things. He can’t.
-Obama ends with some silly fluff. Another disaster; the only thing I learned from this speech is that if I don’t have insurance, Obama is going to FORCE ME TO BUY IT. Libertarians won’t like that. Young people who choose not to have insurance won’t like that.
