Kanjo: Washington trying to do too much July 13 2009
Congressman Kanjorski was on CNBC this morning, being his usual blunt self. (via RCP) One moment he was lowering the bar for Obama-nomics, the next he was criticizing the stimulus and saying Congress was taking on too much at once and should concentrate on getting the economy right.
Kanjo:
Some select statements:
- “Nobody ever said (1) this would be easy, (2) no one ever suggested that we had a vaccine. If we’d had a vaccine the Bush administration would have used it and John McCain would be President of the United States today.”
- “We all knew” unemployment wouldn’t “freeze at 8%, it was going to go higher [...] and probably will go over 10%”, but that “we shouldn’t lose our nerve and run for the hills”.
- “I think we can only afford to concentrate on a couple of major issues at a time.”
- “The reality is that I think we probably have more on our plate at this time than we should have.”
Kanjo criticized the stimulus saying it (1) wasn’t big enough, (2) didn’t spend fast enough, had projects that were “not necessary” rather than a massive singular project like a MagLev corridor that would affect “the psychology of the population”.
