Beep, Beep, Sorry

A sad day in Philadelphia for old time talk radio listeners.

Longtime Philadelphia radio talk show host Irv Homer has died. He was 86 years old.

Homer suffered a massive heart attack while speaking at Eastern University tonight.

He was rushed to Bryn Mawr Hospital.

Homer was a longtime talk show host on WWDB and more recently, WBCB in Levittown.

He hosted his last radio show this afternoon on WBCB.

Evil Irv, or Uncle Irv as his fans knew him was one of the first radio talkers I really became a fan of.

A staunch libertarian, Irv always had a pessimistic / contrarian view of politics. I count him among my early political influences.

Back when WWDB was a) a talk station b) on FM c) full of local talent, Irv was the cream of the crop. The station never recovered from their switch to “news talk”, briefly moving their local hosts to an AM station with a weak signal in favor of Dr Laura and Rush.

The last time I heard him on the radio, years ago, he was a caller to Michael Medved’s afternoon show.

He will be missed.
