PA Primary from a Pro-life Perspective May 19 2009
Not too bad:
PA State Supreme Court – Joan Orie-Melvin won and will be the Republican candidate in the general election, which is definitely good for pro-lifers. Of course all three Republican judges running were pro-life, but Allen may have had to recuse herself in cases involving abortion. Panepinto might possibly be involved in the Philly political machine, and accusations against him (true or untrue) would have hurt him. Orie-Melvin is a candidate who conservatives and libertarians can support.
PA State Superior Court – An automatic win for the three pro-life Republicans, since only three Republicans were involved in this primary. However, the only pro-life Democrat running, Paula Patrick, was defeated. Let’s hope that at least one of the Republicans can win in the general election!
PA State Commonwealth Court – Bad news on this one. For some reason the Republicans voted in droves for Patricia McCullough in spite of the fact that her husband is currently under investigation for allegedly stealing money from a widow. As I said before, even if he is found innocent, this is going to seriously hurt her chances in the general election. Bad move, fellow Republicans. And once again, the only pro-life Democrat running, Jimmy Lynn, was defeated.
Allegheny County Common Pleas Court – Ugh. The good news is that pro-lifer Phil Ignelzi is a guaranteed winner in the general election since he’ll be on both the Dem and GOP ballots. The bad news is that the same goes for pro-aborts Susan Evashavik Dilucente and Arnie Klein. That leaves us with wishy-washy Michele Zappala Peck and total question mark Alex Bicket on the Republican side up against pro-aborts Don Walko and Joe Williams on the Dem side. Let’s hope for a Zappala Peck upset win in the general election.
Mayor of Pittsburgh – It’s Ravenstahl! The most conservative and pro-life candidate won, and incumbent Luke Ravenstahl, having no Republican challenger, will remain mayor of Pittsburgh.
