Is Anti-Toomey Sentiment All About Abortion?

Because that’s what it seems like to me. I know folks like to make pretend that my pet issue doesn’t really matter; that it isn’t really important in American politics.

But what else could possibly move so-called “moderate” Republicans to express an extreme dislike of Pat Toomey? I’ve seen the comments about him – “zealot”, “wing-nut”, “far-right”, etc… all code words for “socially conservative” or “pro-life”.

I thought that the one common thread between Republicans was economic conservatism. I thought that Republicans were angry with the party leadership for abandoning economic conservatism. If what I’ve said is true, why would anyone who chooses to call himself “Republican” oppose Toomey, who has made a career out of promoting economic conservatism?

The only answer I can come up with to that question is, “Because they are pro-abortion.” If that is the case, pro-abortion Republicans are, ironically, being single-issue voters and are refusing to vote for a pro-life candidate who is ideal in every other way. What else could it possibly be? If you know, please tell me!

It was the “moderate” Republicans that spent like Dems, acted like Dems and gave the country over to Dems. 100 days later and instead of the world jeering at us out of fear for our might, they laugh at us.
