Pelosi: Killing Embyros is the Answer to our Prayers!

What would happen if a very public and very politically powerful Catholic said that war is the answer to our prayers, or that terrorism is the answer to our prayers, and then said “We need war, war, war, war, war”? Would his or her bishop do anything about it?

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi forcefully responded to conservative critics of government funding for programs like stem cell research Friday, saying that under the Bush administration, “We’ve had a situation where it’s faith or science – take your pick.”

Really? Is that what we had? Perhaps Ms. Pelosi, expert on Catholicism, would like to point out where in the Bible it states that unborn children are living beings. Wait, no, that was determined in the laboratory, not in the church. The scientific question was answered 150 years ago – life begins at the point of conception. Anyone who says otherwise is either ignorant, lying, or insane, or perhaps all three in Pelosi’s case.

Also nevermind that Bush took a moderate position on embryonic stem cells, allowing state and private money to be spent on the worthless, unethical research. At the same time, Bush had the audacity to promote adult stem cell research, which actually has cured people and will continue to do so unless Pelosi and her friends outlaw it, which I wouldn’t put past them.

When it is pointed out to them that embryonic stem cell research is 100% legal and could have been done at any time by private companies while Bush was president, and considering what a gold mine it supposedly is – imagine how much money you would have if your company had the patent on a cure for diabetes! – what do proponents of eSCR say? Why, that evil drug companies were holding back eSCR, of course! That it would have proceeded in the private sector except that drug companies won’t let it happen, so only government can do it! Right.

“We’re saying science is an answer to our prayers,” the San Francisco Democrat said.

They left out the part about her being a “devout” Catholic.

Pelosi’s comments came after a tour of lab facilities at UCSF’s Mission Bay campus and the J. David Gladstone Institutes, both leaders in stem cell research.

Pelosi insisted she is “standing my ground” in support of such research. “We are going forth with science … and we will defend that investment.”

“We need science, science, science, science, science,” she said.

We need sanity, sanity, sanity, sanity, sanity, in Congress.
