Liberals Remain Blind to Reality March 18 2009
Another hive-mind lefty blogger sings the praises of Obama for forcing all Americans to fund embryo destructive research, citing the effectiveness of a stem cell treatment in China to cure a child’s blindness.
Unfortunately, the only truly blind person here is the lefty blogger, who even quotes the part of the story which shows that the Chinese doctors used adult stem cells, not embryonic, to treat this patient:
Macie Morse was born with optic nerve hypoplasia, meaning her optic nerve didn’t develop all the way. The only way to repair it was to grow more of the nerve using umbilical cord stem cells.
She and her mother traveled all the way to China for an experimental treatment.
For 6 weeks Morse received injections of cord stem cells and acupuncture to stimulate the cells. Gradually, they took hold and began growing the optic nerve Morse was missing.
The blind blogger and his blind friends in the comments condemn “wingnuts” for being against the research that cured this girl. Of course, the only problem with that is that nobody is against adult stem cell research. George W. Bush called for more funding for it. Rick Santorum proposed more forms of research into it, research which was blocked by anti-science Democrats. Every Christian and/or conservative organization supports the kind of research which healed this girl’s eyes.
The real reason why this treatment is not yet available in the US is that we have medical standards here. We have the FDA. We do not allow doctors to use potentially dangerous, experimental treatments on human beings. It has nothing to do with “wingnuts” and everything to do with safeguarding against harmful experimentation on people.
