Props to Steele March 2 2009
While many prominent conservatives are complaining about RNC Chairman Michael Steele’s performance on D. L. Hughley’s talk show, I feel the need to defend the man.
I was channel surfing and happened to catch Steele on the show, and was outraged at the kind of stuff comedian Hughley and rapper Chuck D were saying to the man. Hughley and “Chuck” are obviously racist scumbags who do not deserve to be taken seriously (the RNC is Nazi Germany???), but Steele very patiently and very calmly attempted to have a real discussion with them.
Steele sat there as his party was compared to Nazis, as his credentials were mocked, as the positions of the Republican Party were intentionally misrepresented. The gutter trash Hughley and “Chuck” both looked down their noses at him, and I felt my blood boil as they acted like they had any authority to stand in judgement over him.
If I were in Steele’s place, I would have thrown up my hands, said “The hell with this” and walked off the set as soon as the word “Nazi” was used to describe my party. Note that Hughley wasn’t saying that the Republicans are Nazis because of policy, but because most of us are white. In other words, white = Nazi. Can you say “infuriating”? I don’t think I need to remind you what nationality I am and how unbelievably offensive that is to me.
I have to say that I was greatly impressed with Steele’s ability to sit there and take such abuse from such rotten, mindless imbeciles. So much so that his missteps were insignificant to me.
