Challenging Murtha

William Russell is planning to take on Jack Murtha in next year’s elections. Here’s his statement:

My name is William T Russell. I am running for Congress against John Murtha as a Republican in the 12th Congressional District of Pennsylvania in the November 2008 election.

I would like to introduce myself to you. I am a family man, a husband, and a father. I am also a small business owner and entrepreneur, as well as an American Soldier….

Read the whole thing here.

I wish him luck, but he has one really big thing against him. He’s not from the area and folks from Pittsylvania can be pretty clannish. I know — I grew up there.

The Latest “Holiday Tree”

Tony Phyrillas tells us that “The Freethought Society of Greater Philadelphia” plans to put up their own “Holiday Tree” this year:

The group’s display is entitled “The Tree of Knowledge” and it will feature a 15-foot evergreen with color copies of book covers as “ornaments.” Some of the book covers will include the Bible, the Quran, “Ethics Without God,” “Why I Am Not a Christian,” and “Freethinkers: A History of American Secularism.”

I, for one, think it’s perfect. A so-called “Tree of Knowledge” covered with empty book covers, ie, pomposity combined with no actual knowledge whatsoever. What a perfect symbol for atheism.

Hershey’s New Product: Crack Cocaine

Sort of.

The Hershey Company is under fire for making a candy that some say resembles crack cocaine.

When Philadelphia narcotics officers first saw the breath mints, called Ice Breakers, they actually ordered a field test to determine its contents because the package looked so much like illegal drugs.

Even veteran narcotics officers acknowledged that they could not tell difference between a package of crack cocaine and the breath mints package when placed side by side.

“It is an exact replication what you see on the street, from the color, to the texture, to the substance itself,” Chief Inspector Bill Blackburn explained.

I’ve never seen crack cocaine first hand, but I’m thinking it looked a lot like “rock candy.

Well, without the cool colors.

Disenfranchised from YouTube?!?

“The man said he wasn’t going to hurt them, but he wanted to talk to Hillary Clinton.”

This just goes to show you…you can find the wackjobs in the Clinton camp. He should have put his questions on YouTube…well, he’d have had to work for her first. He did call CNN, after all.

Re: Wolf in Sheep’s Clothing

Dr Rick, I didn’t get to watch the debate (because they’re pretty boring), but I understand the outrage at the CNN dupe-age has inspired some conservative force-joining from Redstate and Human Events.

We have a base of readers who represent the Republican wing of the Republican Party. You – and the Republican Party – deserve to face the questions posed by undecided Republicans, not Democratic activists. We will solicit and obtain YouTube videos from those people and vet each questioner to establish that they are – really – - undecided Republicans. We hope to include soldiers in the field in Iraq, Young Republicans, and others who still have not decided among you.

Today, allow us to make you this offer: We will organize a debate at a time and date amenable to you all. We will work with a national broadcaster to broadcast the debate as well as offer it online. We, not the liberal drive by media, will ensure the questioners are who they say they are. And we will choose them based on criteria that will be fully disclosed to you all which ensure the questioners aren’t activists for any Democratic candidate.

It’s time to start talking to Republican voters about issues that will help them choose the Republican nominee. This could be a very good way to do it.

Read it all

Shouldn’t we have been doing this the whole time?

Wolf in Sheeps Clothing

My impression of the CNN debates:

”Hi, my name is Chelsea Clinton, no relation to the Clinton camp, and my question is for all Republicans and how they feel about my mom – err, Hillary Clinton becoming the first female President. Oh, and will they all bow down and kiss her feet when she’s in office?”

Bill Clinton hiding in background, “disguise your voice.”

I would love, however, to see Monica Lewinski ask Hillary how she feels about marriage between men and women only. Priceless.

About F’ing Time

Debit cards are coming to SEPTA.

SEPTA took its first tentative step today out of the era of tokens and paper tickets, announcing its plan to award a contract for a “smart card” by the end of next year.

But it is likely to be three years or longer and to cost at least $100 million – based on other cities’ experiences – before SEPTA riders can wave a card at a turnstile and be on their way.

SEPTA officials said today that they would issue requests for smart-card proposals early next year. They want financial institutions and other smart-card makers to offer fare-collection systems that can work on subways, buses, trolleys, regional rail trains and para-transit.

Other transit agencies have been moving toward “contactless” fare systems for years, and SEPTA passengers – and city and state politicians – have grown increasingly impatient with SEPTA’s relative lack of progress.

Having used the subways in Washington and NYC (yesterday), their debit style systems are far superior to the token/transpass system Septa uses.

JoePa: $500K

Patriot-News has the most important number ever to be revealed.

At a salary of $512,664 a year, Joe Paterno is a bargain, says David Han, the president of the Penn State Alumni Association.

“I think he is a priceless institution,” said Han, of Hummelstown, a vascular surgeon at the Penn State Milton S. Hershey Medical Center. “How do you put a dollar figure on the contributions he has made and continues to make? I don’t think you can do it.”

Um, PennState does that every year since 1966.

Me, it’s hard to get excited about. If he can get it, good for him. Did it need to be a state secret? Probably not.

Murtha: Surge Is Working

Imagine how well it would have worked if the troops were in Okinawa.

Rep. John Murtha (D-Pa.), one of the leading anti-war voices in the House Democratic Caucus, is back from a trip to Iraq and he now says the “surge is working.” This could be a huge problem for Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) and other Democratic leaders, who are blocking approval of the full $200 billion being sought by President Bush for combat operations in Iraq in 2008.

Murtha’s latest comments are also a stark reversal from what he said earlier in the year. The Pennsylvania Democrat, who chairs the powerful Defense Subcommittee on the House Appropriations Committee, has previously stated that the surge “is not working” and the United States faced a military disaster in Iraq.

Dead Mans Pants

Finding a new Bush would be like wearing a dead mans pants. This Bush was supposed to be the NEW BUSH!!!

It’s awful to consider the disappointing reality that there are no new Reagans.

Anyways, one addendum to the Platform: Making it illegal to surpass the spending allocated in the federal budget unless there is an national crisis or unless the Congress finds a scenario where it is absolutly necessary. And also making it illegal to spend social security funds – ever!

Stirring the Pot

Ross Douthat, one of the sharpest observers of the political scene from the conservative side, blogs for the Atlantic. In one of his recent posts he notes that the Republican candidates generating the greatest degree of enthusiasm are non-traditional conservatives — Paul, Huckabee, and Giuliani. By contrast, the mainstream “Mr. Conservative” types — Romney, McCain, and Thompson — are generating yawns in the electorate. Reliable mainstream liberal commentator, Howard Fineman, has written that this is a problem for the Republicans because it muddies up their image. Douthat, however, sees it as a plus. He writes:

I’ve enjoyed the rise of Huckabee and Paul: Not because I agree with them on an issue-by-issue basis, but because they’re willing to push the envelope a bit, and expand the definition of what a conservative can stand for in ways that I think are ultimately healthy for the party. Paul, for instance, is far too non-interventionist for my taste, but he’s serving a valuable purpose even so, by highlighting – in a field where the front-runners seem to be competing to see who can yell “Islamofascism” the loudest – how cramped the intra-party foreign policy debate has become. Huckabee, similarly, is pushing a variety of bad ideas, but he’s willing to at least address a set of issues – jobs and health care, the environment and inequality – that would otherwise be entirely absent from the debate. Without the two of them, you’d have a field whose ideological spectrum runs from Steven Moore to Grover Norquist on domestic policy, and from Michael Ledeen to Norman Podhoretz on foreign affairs. There would be greater party unity, sure, but sometimes unity’s just another word for self-marginalization.

Read it here.

He’s absolutely right.

It is simply not enough for Republicans to dream of a Reagan revival or to denounce Bush’s approach to his job as “big government” conservatism, and the foreign policy debate has to expand beyond Iraq and Iran if the candidate is to be perceived as a credible choice in the general election.

The problem for Republicans is that in 2006 feckless “movement” conservatives abandoned the party’s leadership and delivered them a “thumpin’” [to use Pat Buchanan's term]. The result has been disorientation and confusion at the core of the party and a tendency to play to the sensibilities of the conservative base. That is a reasonable strategy in an off-year election when the name of the game is energizing your base, but in a presidential election year, when moderates and independents vote in large numbers, it is a recipe for disaster. Republicans have to worry less about unity and more about broadening their appeal. And movement conservatives have to stop throwing temper tantrums at any deviation from orthodoxy.

CNN’s decision to allow Democrat operatives to pose questions to the candidates in the recent debate was a despicable display of partisan bias by a news organization, but it may be the best thing they could have done. Rudy or Mitt or Huck, or whoever emerges as the party’s choice is going to have to develop credible positions on a host of issues that movement conservatives find distasteful. We should be welcoming, rather than denouncing, those who stir the pot and raise uncomfortable ideas and issues.

Don Surber put it best. Conservatives should quit looking for a new Ronald Reagan and start looking for a new George W. Bush.

A Real Mother?

I wanted to follow up the last gentlemans post with a quick bit of info. Despite the campaigns being fought by pro death advocates who would like you to beleive that “medically necessary” abortions are frequent and are a keystone in their argument, I can assure you that they are not! It is very infrequent that the life of a fetus so complicates a pregnancy that the life of the mother is in danger. More so, what kind of mother wouldn’t do anything for their child?

I can give that kind of blanket statement because I provide anesthesia for a living and have been involved in cases comparable to the aforementioned. Abortions, euphemistically referred to as “D,C, & E’s,” however, in the hospital are quite common.

My mother always says things like, ”you won’t understand what it’s like until your a parent.” She’s probably right. Some children will never know what it’s like to have one.

The Question

Those of you who watched the CNN/YouTube debate last night are probably aware that a lot of the supposedly “undecided” folks asking questions were actually Democrat operatives, so their questions were more designed to embarrass or attack the candidates than to encourage debate. Why should we expect anything less from CNN?

One such question was about abortion. To paraphrase:

If abortion is made illegal, what punishment should be given to women who get abortions?

This question intends to make the pro-lifer look bad. If he says that he’s for a lenient punishment, then it suggests he’s not serious about abortion being the killing of a human life. If he says that he’s for a harsh punishment, then the pro-aborts will say that he wants to jail millions of women.

None of the presidential candidates gave a clear answer to this question. That said, here is my answer to the question:

This is a difficult question. The reason why it is a difficult question is that for the last 34 years, it has been legal to kill a certain class of human being in this country. Not only has it been legal, but it has been encouraged and celebrated. Millions of people have taken part in this killing, which is modern America’s greatest shame. What are we to do when millions of our fellow Americans have come to support what is, by every reasonable measure, murder? Are we to turn a blind eye to it because it’s too horrible to think about?

Our humanity demands us to not only recognize evil, but to stand up against it and fight it, regardless of the consequences. If people were squeamish when presented with a question like that 150 years ago, we would still have slavery in this country. Think of the abolitionists. They sought nothing less than the end of all slavery. And yet, millions of Americans had profited from slavery. Certainly the question of “What should the punishment be for owning slaves?” came up at some point. And the brave men and women of the time had two choices: They could either be filled with doubt and give up on their battle to end slavery, or fight on until they had won. Fortunately for us all, they kept on fighting. Today, there are very serious punishments for slavery. And nobody questions these punishments.

In America, it is unconstitutional to charge anyone with a crime ex post facto. This means that you cannot put someone on trial for committing an act which was legal at the time they committed it. At the end of America’s long night of legal abortion, there will be no trials for any of the women who resorted to it in the past.

However, once abortion is made illegal, from that point on, those who commit abortion or take part in it should be subject to serious punishment. It should absolutely be considered homicide, and legislatures should write their laws accordingly. If a legislature decides that someone guilty of homicide should receive the punishment of life in prison, then the same law can be passed when it comes to abortion. The intentional killing of innocent human life is an extremely serious matter, and once abortion is made illegal, every American will finally come to realize that.

We have been told that the main cause of abortion is that women are economically unable to take care of their children. This in itself should be seen as a tragedy which must be remedied immediately, not as an excuse to kill a child. It is horrendous that we ever came to such a conclusion! A woman can’t take care of her child, so just kill the child? How perverse! No, we should do everything we can to help that woman and her child.

We have been told that the second cause of abortion is a medical issue which threatens the woman’s health. In these circumstances, every attempt must be made to save both lives. As I have said, abortion is a serious issue, on an even plane with homicide. To simply say that one option we have is to just kill the unborn child is wrong in every sense of the word. In spite of what we might want, the reality is that there are some cases in which it is impossible to save both lives. In these cases, the utmost respect must be shown to both lives. If a life-saving operation performed on the mother results in the indirect and unwanted death of the unborn life, then it is an unfortunate yet valid choice to be made.

We have been told that the third cause of abortion is rape and incest. To this cause, I would say, two wrongs don’t make a right. However, it is also true that many legislators are willing to make exceptions for causes such as these. I would grudgingly accept these exceptions if they are the only way to put an end to 99% of all abortions. I repeat, this is a serious issue, and should not be treated as anything less than the intentional killing of innocent human beings. We must not turn our eyes away from this because it’s hard to look at. We can and must face the evil which ravages our society and remove it.

The Platform

The speculation about the 2008 election has been in a tailspin since perhaps the year 2000. Since then, the nation has seen its system of government and values all come under fire by the conflagration that is public liberal influence (closet socialism). While the candidates who will make up this historic election have yet to be definitively determined, the personal attacks on those involved and discussion of issues that practically no rational mind could have imagined us debating has so become the new norm.

Consider for a moment some of the ”critical” issues being debated; Illegal immigration, national health care, abolition of the death penalty, globalism in economic transactions, diplomacy in international affairs, defining whether the institute of marriage is between men and women, and taxation to name a few. Believe it or not, there actually some people who want all immigrants granted immunity, health care to be supplied to all, taxation to be increased, to export our decision making to the United Nations, and marriage to be between anyone who decides they want to be married. You might call the aforementioned Democrats. To listen to the media, you might think everyone in American other than yourself or myself wants these kinds of changes. Untrue!

Despite the fact that I feel there are no visionary leaders who are in the pool of potential candidates on either side there are definitely two differing sets of ideals regarding the party’s. But even more important than the Presidency is the vacancy in our nation for a true visionary leader who brings the actual feelings of the majority of Americans to the table. Such a candidate should surely walk away from the 2008 election (or any election for that matter) with an unprecedented landslide victory and political capital to spend. This country needs such leadership!

The outline to victory is hard-line conservatism on almost all topics. If a candidate should surface from either the current political arena or from the heartland strict adherence to the Constitution and the following issues would revitalize the American people who have become disenfranchised by contemporary political practices and disinterested because no one out there sends them the message they want to hear. The candidate with the following message is needed not only for 2008 but for the future of America.

This is The Platform: The vows to protect America at any and all costs from all enemy’s foreign and domestic. This includes funding our military with whatever is necessary to accomplish any type of tactical operation or preparation for conflict. Our preservation comes primarily from the strength of our military – so we should ensure to continue our military expertise. Financial support for municipalities throughout the country to increase police and other crime fighting organizations should be included. Far to many sheriffs and police chiefs throughout the country claim that our departments are lacking in funding, man power, and resources. They should have, if anything, too much. When I was a child the police were idolized and respected by children and parents. The nature of safety needs to be reinstituted into our lives. Just a suggestion – when was the last time you went to a neighborhood watch program or do you not even know if there is one? Keep reading to find out how I intend to pay for this…

The increased numbers of crime fighters will help accomplish another great goal of our country: to eradicate or greatly diminish drugs. The war on drugs has been going on for years but is clearly no being won. Whatever needs to be done to fight this problem plaguing society will be done and that includes punishing those who violate our laws.

I will support the death penalty and encourage its practice be less seldom employed. I recognize that our prisons and jails are over occupied and at the same time far to many assailants either go uncaught or are granted lesser sentencing. I will do all I can to ensure just punishment of crimes through legislation.

The borders in this country have been violated for far to long. Immediately, we should see to the construction of the borders between America and Mexico. This will cost us only minimal monetary sums. How? Because I would invite all Americans interested in volunteering their time and efforts or their own financial support to help erect it. From lay people to professional fencing installers, nothing would create a more safe and secure system of borders than the efforts of REAL American citizens. Additional border security will include laser sensors and increased border security who are supported instead of questioned by the government.

There are an estimated 12 million plus law-breaking illegal occupants within our nations walls and their intentions are not known, many have criminal backgrounds, and many just want to live here in America reaping the benefits of our society. In other words, some people who just want to be in America instead of being Americans. Since deportation IS an option I would recommend that illegal’s should have mandatory military service requirements of 2 years, a $5,000 fine, and the processing of all documents that legal immigrants need satisfy. Others should leave or be removed and sent back. How will we find them? We will ask American citizens to turn them in. This means that all immigration groups need to be empowered to do their jobs instead of having their abilities taken away from them. I will reevaluate all international trading policies including NAFTA and CAFTA to ensure that policy implemented is only to the benefit of America.

We have been in a war on terror for some time now. This is a war that will never end and requires our continued vigilance as citizens. However, there are things we ca do to combat the war. Starting with the apprehending of terrorists including Osama bin Laden regardless of his location. Actionable intelligence or not, if our intelligence believes to have located his whereabouts, we will stop at nothing to ensure that he is brought to justice. I consider the fact that he is still at large a failure on the part of our government and I will not tolerate failure.

To accomplish such a goal requires the approval of our people only and no one else’s. For this reason, America will immediately defund the United Nations and request that it be immediately moved off of our soil to another country. With those savings, we will provide for our civilian protections.

To end our dependence on foreign oil I will authorize the construction of oil refineries in America for the first time since the 1970’s. I will authorize the exploration for these refineries where oil is located off the coast of Florida and in Alaska. I will also double our government surplus of oil. Oil is not our only resource. I will also encourage the construction of more energy facilities like nuclear plants. I will make the changes necessary to ensure this happens without having to meet crazy environmental demands. And for companies who invest in, discover, or utilize new and alternative fuel sources we will offer tax credits and financial rewards. I intend to bring back incentive into American business culture.

To keep jobs in America I will create one new tax: the deportation tax. This expensive tax will be levied against any company deciding to export their goods and services from domestic soil. It will also be held against companies who have recently moved out of America to other countries as incentive to return. The revenue from this tax will go to college education programs for workers seeking skills and education.

Other taxes will be cut and evenly distributed regardless of wealth. No longer will only the top 10 percent of Americans pay the majority of taxes in our country. The lost finances will be offset by the cuts in government which will be vast and necessary. I believe in limited government and only necessary programs. All others, especially those yielding lackluster results will either be overhauled or simply eliminated. The taxes, which we do have will be less than they are now, however, the tax returns will be eliminated because this will be the primary means of revenue for the government.

I will have an imbalanced budget. Imbalanced because I will work surpluses into our financial policies and systems. Should Congress oppose my cuts, I will shut down the government.

I am a health care employee and recognize the importance of health care in society, however, I do not feel it is a right. Health care woes that exist only do so because of a system which has its values mixed up. I will resolve health care issues by cutting lawsuit benefits filed against health care workers and cap frivolous lawsuit sums as to ensure that insurance companies are not playing catch up by increasing costs to providers. America also has an emergency health care system in which these services are rendered regardless of status. Your ability to maintain health and provide for health care coverage are solely your responsibility. More so, the choices you make including your lifestyle (obesity, smoking) are not the burdens of all Americans but are your own choices. I strongly advocate against socialized medicine as it is an abject failure in all countries where it has been established and I would not subject my fellow citizens to its failures.

I will reform Social Security! No longer will the money you pay be garnered by the government and spent on things other than your Social Security. When you put money into social security it will go into an account with your name on it and only be able to be spent by you. This will begin immediately for all Americans who begin working for the first time under my administration. Those of you currently paying in fear not! I will ensure for you that your social security stays exactly as is.

If I should be needed to appoint a justice to the Supreme Court while in office I will appoint a strict constructionist judge with a record consistent with that of an American Supreme Court Justice. I will ensure that our Constitution will be preserved and that legislation from the bench will not happen so as to jeopardize our country.

I am fully in support of the second Amendment without reservation.

I support marriage between men and women, the Patriot Act, and will fight against the Fairness Doctrine. I will repeal the Estate tax. I will do whatever is necessary to accomplish EVERY goal I have outlined and I will address the nation as often as possible - naming names – of any individuals in government who are trying to keep us from accomplishing these goals. I will bring leadership and respect back the Presidency and keep you informed of what we do in the government to bridge the disconnect to the people. I will be honest and just. I will return decency and honesty to the White House and expose scandal and corruption in the government. I stand for preservation of our history, American culture, capitalism, and the English language. I pledge to the flag under God, and respect the Constitution. I am an American and I so solemnly swear to her forever my allegiance.

Finally, I consider this opportunity a privilege and a duty. As your American President, I will forfeit 25% of my salary to charity.

God bless America and may I lead you with the clarity and wisdom shared by our Forefathers who established this great nation.

One Vote…

Almost every year there’s an example of “every vote matters.”

Here’s the latest.

One woman, one vote has a double meaning in a Montgomery County township. A lengthy count and a very short margin have decided a Salford Township supervisor’s race.

The race pitted 46-year-old Barbara Lynch against 64-year-old Donald Lodge, who’s been on the three-member board for more than three decades.

After the vote count on Nov. 6 it appeared Lodge had won by more than 80 votes. Then Lynch got a call saying the tally was wrong and she had won. But absentee ballots had not been added.

I won the “Judge of Elections” in my precinct by one vote.

It was the only vote cast.

… and wasn’t even my own.

My wife wrote me in.

Bob & Rudy

It looks likes ABCNews has caught on to something that people in Pennsylvania have known about for a long time.

The Blotter

A Pennsylvania man convicted in a notorious corruption case played host to former New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani at a fundraiser last night, despite the Giuliani campaign’s public efforts to distance itself from the man.

Bob Asher, a major Pennsylvania Republican player as a national party committeeman, was one of four hosts for the $2,300-a-person event. Asher was convicted in 1986 on charges stemming from a bribery scheme intended to win a $300,000 state government contract. The case gained national attention when his co-defendant in the case, Pennsylvania state treasurer R. Budd Dwyer, committed suicide at a televised news conference. Asher was sentenced to serve one year in prison.

At that time, Giuliani was a federal prosecutor in New York, building a reputation by locking up criminals for similar corruption-related misdeeds.

Josh Drobnyk points out a previous Rudy misstep.

Asher and Pennsylvania’s Republican Party has let it go, but whether the national press — no doubt goaded by Giuliani’s competitors — will forget it is another story. In a race that has seen Giuliani hounded for his ties to Bernard Kerik (who ran the police department in New York when Giuliani was mayor and has been indicted on conspiracy and tax fraud charges — charges he has pleaded not guilty to), that’s unlikely to happen.

Some, some in Pa’s Republican party have let it go. The rest of us, not so much.

Re: Farce in Pittsburgh

Things were so hosed up in the Burgh, they skipped the anthem.

Sports in America start with the national anthem. The Dolphins- Steelers game was an exception.

Rushing to begin the nationally televised matchup following a 25- minute weather delay, the NFL chose to skip the anthem Monday night before Miami played Pittsburgh. The game started without any of the traditional pregame ceremonies, except the coin toss, and neither team was introduced on the public address system.

According to the Steelers, the NFL wanted the game to begin as soon as possible following the delay. Several more minutes would have been needed to set up a microphone and sound equipment at midfield, where the anthem is traditionally performed at Steelers games.

Who’s Getting a Raise?

Everyone.

The Pennsylvania House and Senate chief clerk’s offices have noted that, beginning on Dec. 1, state legislators will receive a 3.5 percent pay hike.

Their pay will go up to $76,163, a $2,549 cost-of-living adjustment (COLA). High-ranking Pennsylvania officials are automatically entitled to an annual COLA under a 1995 state law. When state lawmakers enacted the infamous (and short-lived) 2005 pay raise, many opponents cited the automatic annual raise in salary as one reason new pay-hiking legislation was unnecessary.

Dubbing the 1995 COLA legislation “the gift that keeps on giving,” the reformist Common Cause Pennsylvania skewered the pro-raise legislators for their contention that they needed increased income.

A COLA is definately not a problem… a middle of the night extra-constitutional theft? Problem.

Re: Farce in Pittsburgh

John, Lowman Henry was not so charitable.

While the Steelers escaped the “mud bowl” with their dignity intact, Heinz Field was not so fortunate. The taxpayer-subsidized facility failed to live up to professional football standards. And this is not a new problem, but it is one which must now be addressed. Having gone against the will of a substantial majority of voters in southwestern Pennsylvania and spent tax Money to build the facility, the least the Stadium Authority could do is to run it right. At this they have failed.

Normally Monday Night Football is an opportunity for the host city to showcase itself to the nation. Last night, all the City of Pittsburgh got was mud in its eye – literally.

Nathan Benefield wonders in a slightly different direction.

Blaming John Lewandowski…. and other Steelers fans.

Why were there four high school and one college football games played at Heinz Field last weekend? Because when taxpayer finance a stadium, there going to get as much use of it as possible. If Steelers fans and NFL fans wanted an NFL-only stadium, with fresh sod every week, they should have ponied up the costs themselves. If ESPN wanted a high-scoring game on articifial turf for Monday Night Football, they should up their contract and pay Pennsylvania taxpayers back the $190 million+ they paid for Heinz field.
